Tango para Bailar, Tango para la Vida: the story behind Tango MJ

After moving from Buenos Aires to the Netherlands four years ago, we started Tango MJ.

We had a lot of ideas for all the projects we wanted to start, some of them including all the learnings and experiences we would like to share from spending more than a decade around Argentine Tango culture.

For us, Tango isn’t just about learning steps or dancing. It is about a unique way to discover what connection, communication and leadership actually mean in an embodied sense.

For Joel Correa, Argentine Tango was the door to the world. He met people from all over the world while he himself wasn’t able to travel yet. He gained confidence through encounters with people without even speaking the same verbal language.

And for Maddalena Mol, Tango was something completely different. She found it fascinating how Tango forced her to look at her inner and subsequently outer “tension”, to learn to surrender and to trust in somebody else’s leadership.

While continuing to study and experience Tango in different cultural settings, we also gained teaching and leadership experience in different fields. Along the way, we kept seeing more and more parallels between what Tango embodies and actual life.

And we were repeatedly told things like:

“Oh my God, this workshop would be so good for our department leaders…”

Or:

“This is actually something we should do with our team.”

And that left us thinking.

We started asking ourselves how we could use Tango to explore something beyond just dancing and bring some of these learnings into other areas of life.

This is also how our slogan came about:

Tango para Bailar, Tango para la Vida. The two pillars we work with.

Tango para Bailar is about Argentine Tango itself: learning, dancing, connecting with the music and discovering this incredible culture.

Tango para la Vida explores the parallels between Tango and life, connection, communication and (self)leadership, and how we can use an embodied experience to discover and learn something about ourselves and the way we interact with others.

And here we are.

Teaching workshops in the region since the beginning of 2023, building our own Tango community since November 2025 in the Parkstad region in the south of the Netherlands, and organizing our first Tango dance nights.

Now, we are also actively working on the creation of workshops specifically tailored to bring Tango para la Vida into company settings, with a focus on team connection and fun, team building and leadership.

We are very excited to see our projects grow and to bring a new perspective to connection, team building and leadership through an embodied, experiential approach.
